Betty's Bay, Pringle Bay and Rooiels have proposed and the Ward Committees have accepted a special overlay zone that would enable the three villages to retain their dark skies.  This is the wish of the majority of the residents and is also in the interests of the Overstrand tourism goals as tourists are increasingly wanting to find natural areas which allow them to experience local flora and fauna and also the quiet and dark of the night that allows them to see the stars and hear the night sounds.  The beginning of these efforts are to avoid light pollution and retain dark skies.  This is what underpins the proposed Hangklip Villages Conservation Overlay zone
