Various engagements have been held with the authorities on the issue of the importance of maintain the fynbos on our vacant erven and road verges. It has been pointed out that not only do we need to ensure that fynbos is not destroyed when cut back, but that it is essential to ensure that invasive aliens are subsequently cleared as they tend to be pioneer plants. Alien invasive plants in this area are almost all the greatest fire risk - as articulated by the fire investigations into the Knysna and the Cape Town fires. It is very important that we try to ensure that this area continues to be a significant contributor to local and global biodiversity.
