Rooiels is part of the Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve - we are in the transition zone but as there is no buffer between Rooiels and the KBR the Rooiels Conservancy is an important support for seed and habitat. Go to the KBR Company website for more information. And to the Cape Nature KBR website for information on hiking the trails and staying in the KBR.
This Section is still to be developed. But in the meantime we have been fortunate to be given access to an excellent booklet written by the Overberg Renosterveld Conservation Trust Click to go to their website and learn more about their work. The Guide below provides an excellent and very readable overview of how to conserve this fragile ecosystem, much of which is applicable to the fynbos and it shows the importance of this conservation to productive agriculture. It also includes an illustrated guide to the common flora and fauna with photos of some of the mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, insects and plants found in the Overberg Ruens (Coastal Mountain Ridges) Renosterveld.
