Rooielsers try to pick up debris whenever walking on the beaches and from time to time during the year we get together and make a concerted effort to clear our beaches of all the plastic, fishing line and those pernicious small bits of plastic straw and tops which so damage our fish and sea-life. Even if you just pick up a few bits each time, you could be saving the life of a sea creature.
You can go to Clean-Up South Africa to learn more about efforts to clean our beaches - Sept 12-18 is Clean Up week for our beaches in 2016.
