2021 saw the Overstrand join the Great Southern BioBlitz held in October spanning the three southern hemisphere continents. SANBI, Kogelberg Botanical Society, Bettys Bay Conservancy and Kogelberg CREW (Custodians of Rare and Endangered Wildflowers) facilitated - 176 people made 14331 observations and, with help from others on iNaturalist, identified 2093 species Read the Report in the PBWild Bulletin available in your local village shops. How to join iNaturalist and become an ‘Overstrand BioBlitzer’ This is a basic guide to anyone wanting to become a citizen scientist and an ‘Overstrand BioBlitzer’ using iNaturalist – just follow the links below. First join iNaturalist, go to https://www.inaturalist.org and click on SIGN UP (it is free!). Take the time to check out how to get started with this link: https://www.inaturalist.org/pages/getting%252Bstarted Congratulations! You are now part of an amazing and important citizen science group who are playing a critical role in mapping the biodiversity of the world. Next, become an ‘Overstrand BioBlitzer’ and participate in the global City Nature Challenge (CNC2022) https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/city-nature-challenge-2022-overstrand and the Great Southern Bioblitz (GSB2022), a Southern Hemisphere spring Bioblitz https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/great-southern-bioblitz-2022-overstrand The rest is easy – all you need to do is take photos (iNat calls one or a collection of photos of the same organism at the same time in the same place an "observation") that you can geotag (your smart phone does this automatically) with the date and upload them to iNaturalist. All photos/observations taken between 29 April to 2 May 2022 (CNC2022) and 28 to 31 October 2022 (GSB2022) will automatically be included in these Bioblitz projects.
