Great times were had by all who attended our Rooi Els Holiday Programme. Before Christmas we started with a Beach Clean up and then there was a most successful Rooiels Outreach fun walk and the RESA AGM. After Christmas there was a fabulous day with the Boat Club (more about that below) and RERA and REC held their AGMs. In the New Year the weather was not always on our side so unfortunately the WALK up Klein-Hangklip had to be cancelled due to a gale force southeaster and the ECO WALK had to be abandoned due to rain and some of those who attended had to retreat for coffee, rusks and whisky at 127, Rocklands !! We saw plenty of birds after the whisky ! The MARINE WALK was VERY educational and it is quite amazing what can be found under a rock. Thank you Ernst for leading it and your immense enthusiasm. The Sandcastle/Sculpture as per the photographs was another year of excellence and a big thank you to the judges, Rix, Hanna and Elisabeth and to the sponsors, the Boat Club, RERA, the Village Shop, Gossip Corner, Something Else and the Drummond Arms. Also, thank you to Anton for putting the programme together. The wind interrupted the Beach Clean Up on 7th - but some hardy Rooielsers braved the wind - others came the following week in calmer weather for another cleanup. Thanks to all who help to keep our Village and our beach clear of litter. The Marine Walk - Living shores under your feet - we all learned so much Sandcastle competition - fun for all the family The Crayfish competition with the winners -- thanks to the fishermen who donated part of their catch to a very successful social that raised funds for Rooiels organisations. At the really fun social afterwards - with 140 people in attendance - all enjoyed a terrific spread put on by the boat club. Thanks to the Boat Club members for all their efforts and organisation -- they raised R24 300 which they shared as donations to the Rooiels Conservancy, the Rooiels Outreach Trust and the Rooiels Disaster Initiative Several Beach Clean-ups were held - On 15th December, 7th January and on 15th January. Thanks to everyone that participated there were bags and bags of plastic carried away. A few really tough Rooielsers even braved the wind on the 7th January - while others came out the following Saturday.
