Why Wild - The appeal of nature as it is, untouched by man, is a precious resource as much for our souls as for its economic and genetic conservation roles.
We are privileged to live in one of the few areas where we are surrounded by the sea, mountains, plants and animals that have evolved here over millennia. This ‘wildness’ is an increasingly scarce resource that makes us the envy of many. If we try to tame it too much we will become indistinguishable from a gated village or suburb and lose our unique value. To retain it, however, requires that we actively nurture it. This involves adapting our way of living to accommodate the splendour and to minimise our disturbance and intrusion. We need to learn how to live with the wild animals and, where possible, extend our natural fynbos to enhance our contribution to biodiversity and our future property values. The Wild bulletins bring information and photographs of the what, why and how we can nurture nature and keep you up to date with relevant research. The Wild series is designed to keep the community up to date on the environment and relevant research. Bulletins will include research and articles on nature, conserving indigenous plants, animals and marine life and on eco-living on the coastal plains of the Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve.
