Antarctica on a tall Ship
Diary of a ship's surgeon Bob Baigrie Tues 3rd January 2017 8pm 91 Gnidia Rd Rooiels All are welcome Its a bit late so as we can all have a drink on the deck as the sun sets, allowing the room to darken for the slides. Please reply if you can, for chairs, glasses etc. [email protected] 082 650 5671 Its short notice, but anyone in Rooiels, Pringle or Betty’s are welcome. 'Dr Bob' had the trip of a lifetime down to the Antartica during last summer, as the ship’s surgeon on the 105 year old "tall-ship" Bark Europa. The journey began in Punto Arenas in Chilean Patagonia, and after sailing the Magellan straits and Beagle passage, they spent Boxing Day picnicking on a sunny Cape Horn with an Andean condor overhead. There followed a 24-day voyage to 65.50S where the pack ice stopped them. Bob also qualified as an official Antarctic guide, which meant he was always on the zodiacs with the working tourists, as well as giving lectures. Its a great story and he loves telling it.
