Dear Rooielsers
Your monthly feedback on Overstrand Municipality issues was delayed as the Ward Meeting scheduled for March was postponed and the Environmental Planning local consultation set for 14th March was also postponed. We have not yet received a date for the rescheduled meetings. The February Ward Minutes are posted on the OM documents blog on our website. There is a report available on a Ward 10 representatives visit made to the Overstrand service infrastructure on 9th March. It was good to learn about the regular testing done on our drinking water, that the sewerage treatment system is releasing only clean water into the sea, and that the Overstrand waste and recycling systems are effective and well maintained. We have written to the Departments concerned to thank them for their dedication and the services provided. Please see the photos and read the Report on the Ward Feedback blog. Some of you may be interested in an article on using existing legislation to strengthen ecosystem services in South African municipalities. There was an Overstrand Municipality Advisory Forum meeting held in Hermanus to provide background and prepare Ward Committees for the IDP and Budget process. A summary report will be posted on the Ward Feedback blog next week. The IDP and budget process were discussed and the Mayor laid out some key principles going forward emphasising inclusivity adding “An Overstrand for all” to the Mission statement. The intrusion of the Pringle Bay/Buffelsdam baboon troop into the Rooiels baboon troop range has been of concern to many. It caused serious disruption on one weekend with foreign baboons entering homes in the village. It is also totally unacceptable for any foreign baboons to be allowed to forage in the Rooiels troop home range which will cause the disturbance of the Rooiels troop. The Overstrand Municipality have been asked to ensure that the HWS monitors do not allow baboons from strange troops to forage in the Rooiels baboon troop range which is known and mapped. There have been many issues with water supply in the village as some people in Rooiels south are still connected directly to the old pipe that comes directly from the Buffelsdam. Others are now affected as progress is being made to connect the new system to the Rooiels reservoir. When digging for laying the new pipes sometimes existing pipes are not where they are mapped. Once the new system is in place it should greatly reduce problems for all. We have been assured that despite delays attention will be given to the stormwater drains and the Anemone Road paving that are in the 2021/2022 budget. Stormwater drainage is a problem across our three villages with many situations remaining unresolved. This is being put on the agenda of the next Ward Committee meeting. We draw your attention to the Mayor’s Open Meeting first Thursday. This month it will be held in Kleinmond on 7th April from 5pm – 7 pm. We hope you enjoy the holidays coming up and the last few weeks of summer. RERA Exco [email protected]
