During 2020 the Working Group continued to refine and work on an Overlay Zone for all of Rooiels. This is designed to reinforce the Rooiels vision and retain its unique natural character. You can download the 2021 Draft document, which has sticky notes and comments still on it. If you scroll down below the Cascade information, you can also read it online in a Scribd document. The document provides protection to our nature and to residents and is still in draft form. To ensure that we benefit from these protections, it needs to be taken to the Overstrand Municipality for discussions on moving forward to Gazette the Overlay.

At the Cascade, the Overstrand Municipality agreed that they would consider a submission from Rooiels for its own special Overlay Zone, but requested that in the meantime Rooiels give approval to the Rooiels Heritage Protection Overlay which applies only to the areas of Rooiels within line of sight of the R44 in recognition of the aesthetic heritage of Clarence Drive.

RERA convened a meeting on 16th November 2019 to discuss the way forward for Rooiels in the light of new planning and zoning regulations from the Overstrand Municipality and also to follow up on what is happening about the inclusion of Rooiels into the Buffer Zone of the Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve.
